In Brief

The St Michael’s Youth & Internet Café in Inchicore was one of two projects selected by BT in Dublin. The Café wants to help make sure that everyone, regardless of social or economic circumstances, is able to keep up with the fast changing world of technology.

In Detail

Partnering with a number of leading voluntary organisations, BT has committed significant investment, in both financial and in-kind support, for the next three years, to ensure that no-one is excluded or left disadvantaged due to advances in technology. The goal is to focus on getting young people between the ages of 13-21 online and discover the benefits it can bring before joining the workforce.

By providing, not only the technology infrastructure required, BT employee volunteers, are giving their time freely to help and encourage the young people who come to the centre.

According to Janice, “The idea behind the Youth and Internet Café was to have an informal space for young people in Inchicore. We teamed up with the St Michael’s Regeneration Board who had been working with BT in bringing about the BT Connected Communities initiative to the area. Many of the kids we expect to make use of the Café wouldn’t have access to broadband at home.”
