The Gasyard Development Trust in Derry-Londonderry is doing some fantastic work within its local community – supporting families and boosting skills. BT Connected Communities worked with the project to bring much-needed computer equipment, Internet access and training to all residents in the area.
The Gasyard Development Trust makes up part of Traix Neighbour Partnership Board in Derry~Londonderry. Triax covers the Bogside, Brandywell, Creggan, Fountain and Bishop Street areas, recognised by the North West Development Office of the Department for Social Development. The neighbourhood renewal areas covers a population of some 17,300 people.
The Gasyard Development Trust is one of the largest centres within Triax. It looks after enhanced childcare, health and wellbeing, after-schools clubs and over 55's groups – plus cultural and community development facilities. The Gasyard also has close links with local schools.
The local community sees the project as a positive and pioneering step forward – one which strives to boost regeneration, skills and jobs creation.
Through Connected Communities BT volunteers worked with the Gasyard Development Trust to bring ICT resources to the area. With help from Microsoft we kitted out the centre with computers, linked up fibre optic broadband and provided training.
